Home Network & Wi-Fi Installation in Utah
Wi-Fi that reaches the guest house and the patio, not just the family room.
Ratio AV designs, installs, and upgrades home networks for large Utah homes, including second homes in private Park City communities.
Signs Your Home Network Needs an Upgrade
Most people call us because something keeps annoying them. How many of these sound like your house?
-
Video calls freeze in some rooms and not others
-
The signal drops in the garage, guest house, casita, or backyard
-
Streaming buffers when the whole family is online
-
Lights, shades, or cameras lag or drop offline
-
You reboot the router more than you’d like to admit
-
Your network is still the one your internet provider handed you
-
You have added devices, rooms, or buildings since the network was installed
If you checked two or more, your network needs a look.
Connected Home
Your Smart Home Runs on Its Network
Your lighting and AV run on your network, and so do your security systems. When the network works well, everything responds the moment you ask.
-
Every smart device responds without delay, even when scenes and streaming run at once
-
You control everything from one app, one touchscreen, or your voice control platform
-
The equipment is enterprise-grade, with room for whatever you add next
-
A smart home should stay out of your way.
Your ISP Router Is Not Your Network
Your internet provider’s router brings the internet to your front door, but it wasn’t designed for your floor plan.
A real home network starts with a plan, and we run the structured wiring and install the firewall and switches. Then we place access points, the ceiling or wall devices that broadcast Wi-Fi, where the family spends its time. One router in the middle of a large home can’t cover all of that.
Can’t I just buy a better router? Short answer: a better router fixes one box. In a large home, coverage depends on where the access points sit and how we wire them back.
Smart Home Networking in Salt Lake City and Park City
Smart home networking in Utah is mostly a question of capacity. Picture a Friday night: the theater streams in 4K, the cameras record, and someone takes a video call from the guest house. One network carries all of it, plus every keypad and processor in the house.
-
Cameras stream video all day, which a basic router handles poorly
-
AV, lighting, security, and video calls share the same network, so we size it for the full load

Upgrading an Existing Home Network
Many homes have a network built for far fewer devices than they carry today. An upgrade fixes what’s holding yours back. If you’re a current Ratio client with an older network, contact us about an upgrade.
-
Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7: Newer standards add capacity for busy homes. You only see the gain when the wiring and access points behind them keep up.
-
Access point placement: In a large home, placement matters more than power. Several well-placed access points beat one strong router.
-
Wired backbone: We cable each access point back to the network, which keeps wireless fast and steady.
-
What you’ll notice: Video calls hold steady and streaming stops buffering. Even the casita, guest house, or outbuildings get real coverage.
-
Network takeovers: We service other systems, including networks someone else installed. Depending on what’s there, we take it over or rebuild it.
Wi-Fi 6E extends Wi-Fi 6 into the 6 GHz band, which gives devices more room to spread out. Wi-Fi 7 adds wider channels and lets a device use more than one band at once. Both work best on a properly wired network.

Mesh Wi-Fi vs. Access Points: Which Does Your Home Need?
Looking for a mesh Wi-Fi installer in Utah? We install both mesh and wired access points, using brands like Ruckus, Eero Pro, Araknis, and Pakedge. The right choice depends on your home.
| Mesh Wi-Fi | Wired Access Points | |
|---|---|---|
| How it connects | Nodes can link to each other wirelessly | Each access point is cabled back to the network |
| Best for | Homes where new cable isn’t practical, and retrofits | Large homes, remodels, and heavy everyday use |
| Trade-off | Shared wireless links can limit consistency in big or busy homes | Needs cabling, which is easiest to plan early |
In a large home with many devices, wired access points usually give the most consistent results. Mesh works well where cable can’t easily reach. Many homes use both, and a good mesh Wi-Fi installer plans the mix around the house. For more, read the pros and cons of mesh networks.

Home Networking FAQ
Not always. Your provider’s equipment still brings the internet in. We add the network around it: wiring, a firewall, switches, and access points.
With a wired access point placed where you use the space, connected back to the main network.
Sometimes. Mesh works well where cable is hard to run, but in large, busy homes wired access points tend to be more consistent.
Wi-Fi 6E adds the 6 GHz band to Wi-Fi 6, and Wi-Fi 7 adds wider channels and multi-band use. Both work best on a well-wired network.
Sometimes. We service other systems, and whether we take one over or rebuild it depends on the system.
Not if we size it right. That’s the whole job. We plan capacity for Control4, Crestron, Lutron, cameras, and AV.
